I've always thought that to start anew
one has to burn down all the bridges
to stop the past catching up with the present.
It turns out
the trick is not to burn down the bridges
rather to shut all the doors to the past,
shut them hard,
and, most of all,
keep them shut
no matter how hard and how often the past comes on knocking.
